“Happiness…consists in giving, and in serving others.” – Henry Drummond
“Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in thine power of thine hand to do it. Say not unto thy neighbor, Go, and come again, and tomorrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.” Proverbs 3:27-28
M46 Challenge: Talk to your children about the importance of giving with the right heart. It’s always best to do the right thing, right away.
If we view ourselves as the stewards of the gifts, talents, and riches with which we are blessed, then it becomes easier to contemplate giving of our blessings to the benefit and assistance of others. Likewise, giving is a discipline that, perhaps, is more easily developed early in life than later. What expectations are we setting for our children around the giving of their time and talents on a regular basis? Do we set clear expectations around their disciplined saving and giving as they earn and accumulate resources – and explain the importance of those disciplines? Do we help them create those healthy habits early?
In June 2013, I wrote here about “habits become strongholds…Serve…find today’s opportunity…imagine the possibilities.”
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me and my daughter to be like you when we give. You always give your very best, and are always willing to do so. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Thoughts: Days 4, 6, 7, and 9 all apply.
Tomorrow: A bit about Proverbs 9.
